Archaeological Landscapes Monitoring – presentation of activities and results
The project of the Center for Paleoethnological Research within the framework of the scholarship under the Goethe-Institut programme for emergency assistance to Ukrainian cultural figures within the framework of a comprehensive package of measures for which the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany allocates funds to mitigate the consequences of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.
The head of the project is Pavlo Shydlovskyi, associate professor of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

The purpose of the scholarship is to actualize the problem of preservation of archaeological heritage during military operations. The search and attribution of damaged archaeological landscapes is quite difficult, because the vast majority of archeology objects are not included in the lists of monuments of cultural heritage, and the necessary complex of monument protection measures is not applied to their territories. In order to monitor the archaeological heritage during the war, an interdisciplinary group of archaeologists (the Archaeological Landscapes Monitoring Group) was created, but this activity is carried out on a public basis and without a corresponding state program.
Drawing attention to the groups activities will help to enter the results of determining the loss of
archaeological territories into the national list of damaged objects of cultural heritage and establish the level of damage caused as a result of russian aggression.
As part of the activity, it is planned to:
– conducting a number of presentation events highlighting the problems of archaeological monitoring of territories damaged as a result of the war;
– publication of preliminary results of monitoring and scientific articles in the collection “Cultural
heritage and war” within the framework of the publication VITA ANTIQUA.
